Sally Cousins has a way about her that enables her to teach riders of all levels with the same genuine enthusiasm whether jumping an 18” cross rail or a 4 foot oxer. I recently purchased a new horse and neither of us had much experience jumping. We began taking lessons with Sally and I am so impressed with her positive approach. She has encouraged both my horse and I to improve with every lesson. I am equally impressed with her respect for my comfort level as well as her understanding when both my horse and I have reached our maximum and when to call it a day. Every lesson ends on a positive note leaving both my horse and I feeling confident to head home and work on the exercises Sally has recommended to help us continue our progress. It is so refreshing to take a lesson from someone who so clearly loves what she does! Ann McClung, Downingtown, PA
Sally's focus on fundamentals and safety while riding in all three phases has given me a solid foundation. She has helped me build a stronger partnership with my horse and improved my communication with him. Regardless of what level the rider or horse she's teaching, Sally provides feedback that develops essential skills and advances overall performance. Chelsea Larson, Palmyra, PA
I have known Sally for a LONG time. I rode with her a few times many years ago. There’s been lots of water under the dam since. When she started coming to Warwick, I ‘jumped’ at the opportunity to work on my confidence, As a rider for more than 30 years, I brought a certain amount of ‘baggage’ to the lesson. I was very pleased when Sally used the strengths that I brought, and helped me work around my weaknesses. There were usually 2-3 others in the lessons. So I got to watch Sally read other riders and their horses. She does it very well. She helped less experienced riders with position ‘tweaks’, and adjustments to their communication techniques with clear suggestions of what to do. Georgie Evans, Chester Springs, PA
Sally Cousins is a gifted rider and teacher. I have been a student of Sally’s for over five years. During this time, she guided me to take one horse from novice through preliminary and most recently she has helped me start a young horse over fences. She has ridden and competed both horses. Over fences, Sally instills confidence in her horses and always sets them up to succeed. Just watch her out on the cross country course, on any horse at any level, and you will see it first hand. I have also trained with her in Aiken, SC, taken many lessons, walked courses and had her coach me at competitions. Sally has a keen understanding of what it takes to get the best out of every horse and rider combination. She develops exercises to suit individual needs. While teaching, she always gives her students 100% of her time and energy. Her approach to both horse and rider is refreshing and hard to duplicate. Annemarie Cochrane, Elverson, PA
“I have been taking lessons from Sally for a couple years now, and she is an amazing instructor. She builds your confidence at every lesson and teaches you how to work well with your horse. She always sees the improvement in her students and their horses. Her love for teaching shows in every lesson I have ever taken from her. “ Nina Meckel, York, PA
Sally is one of the most naturally gifted jump riders I've ever seen - it just comes easy for her. Horses just go on and seem to enjoy jumping for her. Phillip Dutton, West Grove, PA
She is about as good as there is to the jumps. And her work ethic is second to none." She definitely has what it takes to get to the top. Bruce "Buck" Davidson, Jr., Pennington, NJ
When I started riding with Sally, I had gotten on a bit of a mixed up path with my horse. She very quickly helped me get into a training regimen that has brought out the best in both of us. She is helping me ride from a position of security and confidence, and is helping my horse become the horse I'd always hoped he would be. I have no aspirations to event at high levels, but Sally treats my goals with the same attention as those of her upper-level students. As a result, I am having more fun with my horse than I ever thought possible. In addition, Sally has been teaching at my stable for the past four years, and our students and their horses have benefited tremendously from her instruction. She always seems to know exactly what each rider needs, and always finishes on a positive note. There are lots of smiles when Sally's at the barn. Cindy Gilbert, Harvest View Stables, Manheim, PA
| I’ll admit that at first, the prospect of putting my beginner novice “skills” in front of Sally Cousins made me absolutely queasy. I was sure a rider of her ilk would throw a few crumbs my way and then devote her time to the better riders. I was never happier to be so utterly wrong. Sally was personable, approachable and just plain nice. She has an unbelievable ability to read my horse but also get inside my head. But what keeps me coming back is that at the end of every lesson with her I have renewed faith in my own ability, and that I have an upper level rider in my corner, pulling for me and my horse. | "I love taking lessons with Sally. Her experience shines through in the littlest of details. " Chandra Mast, Ephrata, PA |
| Sally rocks! She has given me a whole new perspective on how to not only ride, but how to handle each situation as it is presented to you. Instead of demanding perfection, she has taught me to look for improvement. Whether on the flat, over fences, or just in watching her ride, you learn far more than just one lesson. You learn something new about eventing, sportsmanship, horsemanship, and professionalism. Her interaction with her students is great and she makes sure you understand what she is trying to get across to you. Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes you better. That is one of the best lessons I have ever learned from Sally. She is HUGE asset to the sport, her students, her horses, and the industry. PS- her dogs are adorable too!
